The University of Johannesburg (UJ), has three types of law courses that are offered, which are: BA Law, BCom Law, and LLB 4 year degree. The BA, and BCom law courses are a three-year full-time courses.

The UJ law courses are ranked in the top 200 in the world, and no 3 in South Africa and Africa in general. So, UJ Law courses are widely internationally recognised. However, getting a space to study Law at UJ, is one of the biggest headaches you will ever experience in your life time, Whether you passed with a bachelor’s or not.

Below is a list of UJ law courses, together with the relevant requirements:

BA (Law) Course Requirements

BA Law degree course requirements are not that hectic as compared with the BCom and LLB, simply because you can study with eaither Maths Lit, or pure Mathematics:

  • Minimum APS:
    • 31 with Mathematics OR
    • 32 with Mathematical Literacy
  • English: 5 (60%+)
  • Additional Language: 4 (50%+)
  • Mathematics: 3 (40%+)
  • Mathematical Literacy: 4 (50%+)
  • Careers: Legal Advisor, Career in Public Administration
  • Campus: APK

BCom (Law) Course Requirements

The BCom Law is a commercial type of law degree offered at UJ. Unlike the BA Law, you require pure Mathematics to study this three year course. Below are the requirements:

  • Qualification Code: B4C01Q
  • Minimum APS: 31 with Mathematics ONLY
  • English: 5 (60%+)
  • Additional Language: 4 (50%+)
  • Mathematics: 4 (50%+)
  • Mathematical Literacy: Not accepted
  • Careers: Legal Advisor, Career in Commerce
  • Campus: APK

LLB (4 Years) Course Requirements

The LLB degree is the ultimate law course offered at UJ. Unlike the BCom and BA Law three year degree courses, this one takes four years to complete. The LLB also requires 60% for Grade 12 English subject, unlike the BCom Law. Below are all the requirements for LLB course offered at UJ:

  • Minimum APS:
    • 31 with Mathematics OR
    • 32 with Mathematical Literacy
  • English: 5 (60%+)
  • Additional Language: 4 (50%+)
  • Mathematics: 3 (40%+)
  • Mathematical Literacy: 4 (50%+)
  • Careers: Advocate, Attorney, State Advocate, Legal Advisor, Magistrate, Public Prosecutor
  • Campus: APK
  • Note: Additional Language requirements are waived (*).
